About Captina Conservancy
Captina Conservancy, based in Barnesville, Belmont County, Ohio, is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) land trust established in 2010 whose mission is to promote, preserve and protect the biodiversity, the natural beauty, and the environmental health of the Captina Creek watershed.
The purpose of the Captina Conservancy is to advance and engage in the conservation, restoration and sustainability of the watershed and surrounding watersheds through education, voluntary conservation agreements and acquisitions, and water quality monitoring. Captina Conservancy has been verified to be practicing at the highest possible conservation standards by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, the national accrediting body for land trusts. As of 2021, Captina Conservancy has 1,827 acres under a combination of conservation easement, stewardship, and ownership.

about Our Leaders
Executive director BioGraphy
Ellie Ewing has served as Executive Director of Captina Conservancy since October 2019. Before coming to the Conservancy, she worked for seven years as an Assistant Attorney General in the Environmental Enforcement Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Ellie grew up on a small dairy farm in northeast Ohio, and has since lived in Chicago, Pittsburgh, San Diego, and parts between.
