Spotlight on captina creek
a documentary film exploring the watershed

2018 Documentary Film Project

Captina Conservancy’s Spotlight on Captina Creek Watershed Initiative, conducted in January 2017, featured informative presentations, small group discussions and brainstorming, and ended with a session of action planning. It became clear during the day long session that so much of Captina Conservancy’s work continues to be educating the public about the value of the watershed. To that end, one of the major projects for the coming year is the production of a documentary film to tell the story of Captina Creek Watershed and why it is so important to protect it.

The documentary film will inform and engage audiences about the fragility and resiliency of Captina Creek Watershed through exploring its rich history and biodiversity, examining challenges to protecting the watershed, and identifying how we can ensure a beautiful, healthy watershed for future generations.

Completion of the film is scheduled for 2018.

The Ohio EPA, after completing a biological and water quality study, designated  Captina Creek an “Exceptional Warmwater Habitat” based on the fish (56 species) and other aquatic life populations and its habitat score; it rates among the highest of any watershed in the state.

Our mission lies in:
  • Building an effective organization that can carry out its mission for generations to come.
  • Generating a growing group of members/supporters/volunteers to sustain the work.
  • Educating the public about the value of the watershed and thus the need to protect it; while helping them understand how to as well.
  • Presenting our mission to landowners; informing them of the possible benefits of agricultural and/or conservation easements.
  • Working with all stakeholders in the watershed to protect and preserve its integrity for the long term along with balancing the natural resource economic benefits of the watershed.
